{"id":7833,"date":"2015-05-29T18:34:43","date_gmt":"2015-05-29T22:34:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.datamyne.com\/?p=7833"},"modified":"2022-05-03T12:45:47","modified_gmt":"2022-05-03T16:45:47","slug":"bottled-up-chilean-salmon-exports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.datamyne.com\/knowledge-center\/markets\/bottled-up-chilean-salmon-exports\/","title":{"rendered":"Bottled up: Chilean Salmon Exports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An eight-day strike by the National Association of Customs Officers in Chile ended yesterday, clearing the way for shipments of Chilean salmon to resume.<\/p>\n<p>The strike affected all Chilean exporters, but the exporters of perishables \u2013 seafood, fruits and vegetables \u2013 were hit hardest by the embargo.<\/p>\n<p>The interruption in Chilean salmon exports has roiled markets, with prices rising for Canadian Atlantic salmon. As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.undercurrentnews.com\/2015\/05\/28\/chile-strike-blog-hopes-for-reconciliation-dashed-as-chilean-government-rejects-strikers-proposal\/\">reported<\/a> in Undercurrent News, Chile\u2019s salmon sector lost $6 million per day in fresh salmon sales, $8 million daily in frozen salmon sales through the strike.<\/p>\n<p>Industry group SalmonChile also worries about the \u201closs of confidence\u201d in Chile as a source of supply. In the US, its top market (see the bar graph), Chile is facing competition from Canada and Norway.
